Research-driven advancements in WBCT structure and application
Written by the Board of the International WBCT Society
The Golden Book of WBCT, written by the Board of the International WBCT Society, serves as the definitive reference on the development, implementation, interpretation, and clinical applications of Weight-Bearing Cone Beam Computed Tomography (WBCT) for the foot and ankle.
The book is structured to provide both a robust scientific foundation and practical clinical guidance. Part One explores the history behind the development of WBCT, the clinical need for this imaging modality, and provides a scientific overview of the technology. Part Two presents an extensive scientific foundation through 16 landmark studies, demonstrating the advantages of WBCT in the assessment of selected foot and ankle injuries and deformities, both congenital and acquired. Building on this evidence, Part Three covers the technical aspects of WBCT, introduces the different imaging systems, and explores current measurement capabilities, including the first software solutions for automated measurements. The following section presents atlas-style clinical cases illustrating the application of WBCT in everyday clinical practice. The final chapter looks ahead to future developments, exploring emerging applications such as dynamic scanning, advanced measurement techniques, and hologram-like visualization.
A second edition is currently in preparation and will further expand the scope of the book with updated scientific evidence, technological advances, and emerging clinical applications. In addition, it will feature a dedicated chapter presenting the perspective of leading industry partners on the future of Weight-Bearing Cone Beam Computed Tomography, highlighting emerging trends, ongoing innovations, and the evolving role of WBCT in clinical practice.
